Usually lines are left aligned when writing in languages which use the alphabet. For certain formatting, however, it may be beneficial to right align or center some lines.
There are numerous nice diff and merge tools out there such as meld, beediff, xxdiff and others. But they often require a graphical environment or they are not installed. Don’t despair, vim does it too.
If you want to search for the word which is currently under the cursor, there is an easy to type shortcut for that
