Once, when I picked up a book from the local library, the librarian asked to tell her what I thought about the book when I would bring it back. Well, why not write a few lines about all the books I read so everybody could see what I thought about it? I'm often also happy to have friends recommend a certain book or tell me this and that is not really worth reading. I won't comment about the tons of books I have read so far, but about books I read from now on.

Luca und Bill sind zwei englische bergsteiger, die schon etliche touren zusammen unternommen haben. Während des aufstiegs zum Makalau in Tibet, tut sich für ganz kurze zeit die wolkendecke unter ihnen auf und legt die sicht frei auf einen berg, der so gleichmässig geformt ist, als wäre er von menschenhand erschaffen. Dieser berg lässt Luca fortan nicht mehr los, er muss ihn einfach besteigen, erst recht als sich abzeichnet, dass er noch unbestiegen ist. Das vorhaben stellt sich aber nicht nur als schier unmöglich heraus, sondern verwickelt die beiden auch in gefährliche politisch-religiöse machenschaften zwischen Tibet und China.
Ein sehr spannendes buch, welches, anders als z.b. die bücher von Eliot Pattison, eine eher westliche, aktuelle sichtweise von Tibet und den dort herrschenden konflikten einnimmt.
