Once, when I picked up a book from the local library, the librarian asked to tell her what I thought about the book when I would bring it back. Well, why not write a few lines about all the books I read so everybody could see what I thought about it? I'm often also happy to have friends recommend a certain book or tell me this and that is not really worth reading. I won't comment about the tons of books I have read so far, but about books I read from now on.

A woman. Her secret lover. Her violent husband. The guy thinking she scammed him. How did she die? Suicide? Accident? Murder?
Detective Superintendent Roy Grace has a lot on his plate when this case lands in his lap. Too much to give it the needed attention right away. A great opportunity for his colleague Guy Batchelor to take the lead. And Guy does a good job. It's just that the more one digs, the more suspects come to the surface.
Even though the reader knows from the beginning roughly what happened to Lorna Belling, Peter James has an interesting way of not spilling the beans about who is responsible. Only towards the end of the book there are enough hints to close in on the culprit.
While the story is very well constructed and well told, it was not a book I could hardly put away for the day. Good entertainment, but not "WOW". When I picked up this book I was not aware of the fact this is number 13 in a whole series. But when Roy Grace turned up I quickly got the feeling there is an underlying longer story hidden, which probably spans all the books in the series. It might well be reading all the books in the correct sequence would increase the appreciation for the storytelling skills of Peter James.
