Once, when I picked up a book from the local library, the librarian asked to tell her what I thought about the book when I would bring it back. Well, why not write a few lines about all the books I read so everybody could see what I thought about it? I'm often also happy to have friends recommend a certain book or tell me this and that is not really worth reading. I won't comment about the tons of books I have read so far, but about books I read from now on.

The book consists of 9 short stories. Each of the stories is quite different from the others. But all of them belong in the SciFi genre. For each story, Chiang picks an idea from science and/or technology, builds a story around it and presents the reader with a scenario, how the technology might be used and what issues arise from it.
Reading the stories feels like there are a lot of psychology and warnings about the technology mixed in. It makes for a rather gloomy and depressing reading experience. If you are looking for something hinting about what negative effects advances in science and technology might have, then you've found a good book. If you are rather looking for entertainment, you probably will not like the stories. And if you are looking for a laugh and a good time, better pick up another book.
